SFMOMA is closing out the year by looking ahead, celebrating achievements of the Bay Area’s most exciting emerging artists. The 2024 honorees are Rose D’Amato, Angela Hennessy and Rupy C. Tut, and on December 12 a group of special guests got to preview the new exhibit at the opening celebration. Each year the museum marks the arrival of new art stars with the SECA Awards, bestowed on promising talent who are given their first major museum exhibition and an accompanying publication as part of the prize.
Partygoers were welcomed to SFMOMA’s California galleries on the second floor to toast the new crop of awardees and celebrate the innovative work on display. The artists, each with a dedicated gallery for the show, rubbed shoulders with museum patrons and carried on SECA’s tradition of elevating the art stars of tomorrow. Since 1967 SECA (Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art) has recognized important emerging Bay Area artists with their first major exhibit of new works. The SECA exhibit can be viewed free of charge for the general public at SFMOMA through May 26, 2025.
