California College of the Arts Celebrates New Campus Expansion

On October 19, hundreds of guests convened at the California College of the Arts (CCA) for the Making Futures Opening Celebrations, commemorating the long-awaited opening of their campus expansion. The new addition brings together more than 30 academic programs and disciplines, student housing and dining and interdisciplinary learning all on one campus in San Francisco’s burgeoning design district. The day’s events honored CCA’s historic legacy, and put forward their visions for the college.

The day began with CCA’s annual Homecoming Alumni Gathering, followed by the Opening Ceremony led by Provost Tammy Rae Carland. At the ceremony, attendees were joined by some very special guests, including Mayor London Breed–who presented CCA with an official proclamation–CCA President David C. Howse and Chinese Consul General Jianmin Zhang. At the end of the ceremony, attendees were invited to participate in a ribbon-tying moment, a collective action to symbolize the unification of services on their new campus.
