The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) celebrated the launch of its flagship fall art exhibition “Making Their Mark: Works from the Shah Garg Collection” with opening day events and a preview on October 26. Dozens of VIPs visited the museum for a brunch, director’s reception and first look at this magnificent new exhibition. “Making Their Mark” showcases the collection of Komal Shah and Gaurav Garg, who have assembled one of the world’s largest collections of work made exclusively by women artists.
The exhibition is the first museum presentation of this important collection. The show juxtaposes contemporary practices with pathbreaking historical works to illuminate transgenerational influences and methodologies among artists from the postwar era to the present. Notable attendees who turned out for the opening day festivities included Shah and Garg, alongside BAMPFA Executive Director Rodrigues Widholm and exhibition co-curators Margot Norton and Cecilia Alemani. “Making Their Mark” will remain on view at BAMPFA through April 20, 2025.
