In the final days of summer, beginning on September 12, the Flower Piano event and concert series once again transformed San Francisco Botanical Garden into the city’s own alfresco concert hall. Over the span of the 10-day event, Celebration Garden in the Botanical Garden was transformed into a VIP experience called the Flower Piano Lounge, which hosted a star-studded roster of musical guests. Artists including Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Martin Luther McCoy & the Robin Hodge Williams Gospel Choir and Sixth Station Trio all played, along with series-opener Orquesta La Moderna Tradición.
In addition to the special concerts, guests at the Flower Piano Lounge also enjoyed access to full-service bars, as well as food from local makers, lounge furniture. In-and-out privileges between the Lounge and rest of the Garden allowed revelers to fully experience all that Flower Piano offered.
Participants were invited to explore the Botanical Garden’s global living plant collections as they sought out the 12 pianos spread out across the 55-acre living museum. At each of the pianos, there was ample open play time for anyone to sit down and try their hand. This year the duration of Flower Piano doubled and spanned two weekends, allowing the event to host a record- breaking 73,000 attendees in total.
