On March 5 ODC kicked off celebrations for its 2025 Dance Downtown Gala and Spring Performance season, with a lively cocktail party for supporters at Gucci’s Union Square store. Guests enjoyed light bites from McCalls Catering while perusing the latest styles from Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection. To the surprise of guests, ODC dancers popped up amongst the crowd to perform excerpts from ODC Founding Artistic Director Brenda Way’s works A Brief History of Up and Down, and Triangulating Euclid. The event is generating early buzz for ODC’s upcoming performances on April 10th-13th, and its Gala celebration on April 11th taking place at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
Brenda Way herself was on hand to speak about the vitality of San Francisco and the important role of the arts in defining the city’s character. “San Francisco is known as a place that attracts and inspires changemakers,” she said. “That’s why we came out here 55 years ago and that’s why we stayed.” Since 1976, ODC has brought original modern dance to the Bay Area, and worked to cultivate artists, foster inclusion and create community through dance.
