September 24 was a beautiful evening at the St Francis Yacht Club, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, and close to 300 guests came out to celebrate the Order of Malta Clinic’s newly expanded free medical clinic. This year’s event also recognized two champions with the Silver Chalice Award. The 2024 honorees were the late Frank Heffernan, an icon in the San Francisco business world, and Santa Barbara’s Ken Olsen. The Silver Chalice Award is bestowed upon those who have done most to further the Clinic’s mission to help those in need. The recipients shared congratulations to the Clinic’s employees, volunteers and donors for the success the organization has realized over the past 16 years.
Since opening its doors in 2008, the medical nonprofit has officially surpassed 55,000 patient visits accessing its no-cost medical services. For many of the Clinic’s patients, healthcare is simply unaffordable after paying for their food and rent. With the help of community support, the Clinic offers high-quality, compassionate healthcare to those who need it most.
