On the evening of Thursday, May 16th, supporters of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) gathered at the Peninsula Golf & Country Club in San Mateo for the organization’s sixth annual Shark Tank event.
During this high-energy, social impact version of Shark Tank, BGCP staff members pitched their transformative programs—K-5 intensive academic tutoring and competitive sports leagues—to a panel of Sharks. Sharks included Jane Alexander (CapitalG), Jeff Jordan (Andreessen Horowitz), Vijay Mohan (Sixth Street), and Tracy Sedlock (Accel). The event raised $1.6 million from Shark and audience contributions to support BGCP students across San Mateo County.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) empowers the youth in our community with equitable access to social, academic and career opportunities to thrive. BGCP is the largest expanded-learning provider in San Mateo County serving 5,400 students from Daly City in the north to East Palo Alto in the south. BGCP programs take place at four clubhouses and 25 school campuses after-school and during the summer. BGCP works closely with school partners to deliver academic and social supports that align with students’ experiences during the school day. Through free, high-quality expanded learning programs, students have access to 830 additional learning hours per year—an 80% increase in learning time over the traditional school year.
