Imagine strolling through the picturesque vineyards of Sonoma County, a glass of award-winning wine in hand, indulging in delectable dishes prepared by talented chefs. The sun is setting over the rolling hills, and there’s a buzz of excitement in the air.
You can experience that and more during the upcoming Sonoma Epicurean Three-Day Event Series, which I am honored to attend this year. From lavish parties to culinary theater experiences and a glamorous gala at the Montage in Healdsburg, this event has everything one could want for an unforgettable weekend.
As a Bay Area Medical Doctor and Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in San Francisco, I am particularly drawn to Sonoma Epicurean’s focus on wellness. Proceeds from the event will benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
2024 Fund-a-Need
Ready to make a difference in the fight against colorectal cancer? This year, the Fund-a-Need campaign will raise funds for critical research in the battle against this devastating disease. The V Foundation for Cancer Research has already made incredible strides, funding over $8.9 million in grants focused on colorectal cancer.
At this event, you will have the unique opportunity to hear directly from leading scientists at the forefront of groundbreaking cancer research, including Dr. Nancy E. Davidson, Chair or the V Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Committee.
I look forward to hearing these experts share their insights, current projects, and the impact their work is having on patients.
Wellness and Epicurean Experiences
Throughout the weekend, many activities will be offered. Wellness experiences include a healthy breakfast prepared by Montage Chef Jason Pringle and a yoga session at Bricoleur Winery.
There will also be a chance to join Ethan Zohn, “Survivor Africa” winner and cancer survivor, for an inspiring hike and picnic at Three Sticks Winery, Durell Vineyard. Zohn will share his journey and survival skills for life’s challenges.
Vintner Grant Honoree
This year’s vintner grant honoree is Leslie Sbrocco, Host of PBS-KQED Check Please! Bay Area and Executive Producer/Host PBS’s national show 100 Days, Drinks, Dishes & Destinations.
A colorectal cancer survivor, Sbrocco is using her recent cancer journey to help spread awareness and hope, as well as support for the fight against all cancers. “My cancer journey began in March of 2021 with a late-stage colon cancer diagnosis after nearly two years of misdiagnoses. I was able to assemble an amazing medical team who supported my unwavering commitment to Victory Over Cancer®,” Sbrocco said.
“I’ve endured 40 procedures to date and am currently disease-free. My motto is, ‘I am the CAN in CANcer!’ But I wouldn’t be here without cutting-edge research. I’m full of pride and purpose to work with the V Foundation to help raise funds to keep people like me alive and thriving,” said Sbrocco.
“Leslie is a genuine inspiration and a wonderful catalyst in raising critical funds for colorectal cancer research,” said Jessica Kilcullen, 2024 Co-Chair of Sonoma Epicurean. “Her fighting spirit paired with her indelible sense of humor will shine and add to the positive energy of advocacy and wellness. Much like her motto, I believe together we CAN make a difference to declare Victory over Cancer®.”
The V Foundation for Cancer Research is a vital organization making significant strides in the fight against cancer. This foundation continues to honor the legacy of Jim Valvano by striving for Victory Over Cancer® every day. Since its formation in 1993, the V Foundation has awarded over $353 million in cancer research grants nationwide. The Foundation awards peer-reviewed grants through a competitive awards process strictly supervised by a Scientific Advisory Committee.
