The V Foundation for Cancer Research recently honored Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, creating the Sarah Ferguson V Scholar Grant for Breast Cancer Research. Ferguson will work closely with the V Foundation’s scientific advisory committee to select grantees, based on the potential of their breast cancer research.
Founded by legendary NC State basketball coach and ESPN broadcaster Jim Valvano, the V Foundation supports cancer research and has awarded more than $300 million in grants. The Ferguson V Scholar Grant will help continue that legacy.
Ferguson has actively advocated for cancer patients and research for many years, founding Sarah’s Trust, which unites philanthropists to support charities worldwide. She has also worked for many years with the UK’s Teenage Cancer Trust, which supports young people who have been diagnosed with cancer.
“We are thrilled to honor the Duchess with the creation of the Sarah Ferguson V Scholar Grant for Breast Cancer research,” said Amy Marks Dornbusch, Chairwoman, V Foundation Wine Celebration. “In addition to being an incredibly delightful person, she has used her voice tirelessly as a beacon of hope for various philanthropic objectives across the globe. “
The V Foundation announced the grant at a dinner honoring Ferguson at Michael and Carole Marks’ Woodside, California home. The dinner capped off her two-day visit to wine country. The Village Pub prepared the meal, which was accompanied by Chappellet wines. Two-time Grammy winners Time For Three provided the entertainment. All proceeds from the event support the grant program.
To support the V Foundation, save the date for their upcoming Sonoma Epicurean event, March 21-24, 2024.
